Police Brutality, custodial death of Jayaraj and Fenix.
History of police brutality
Police brutality has been a common thing in our country, we have often seen legal weapons being used in a very discriminated way. Lathis and pistols are sometimes charged on innocent souls by the policemen on duty due to various reasons. Although sufferance is mostly endured by lower class until major crimes are not committed.
The lockdown madness of controlling and regulating certain rules in this lockdown the policemen on duty have literally lost their calm. The power in their hands has been misused and plunged the basic human rights. A man in UP was beaten with a rifle and lathis in his butt who came out to buy a packet of biscuits. This is just one incidence. There are many.
Custodial death of Jayaraj & Fenix
The social media was taken by shock when the death of two people in Tamil Nadu came to light. Both father and son were arrested for allegedly extending the closing time of their cell phone shop, therefore violating lockdown rules.
Standing against the injustice
RJ Suchitra working for mirchi posted a video talking about the brutal incident that took place in tuticorin district. She explained the severity of the incident breaking it to the nation. Few bollywood celebrities also condemned the brutality and stood for #JusticeForJayarajAndFenix
Social media compared the incident of police brutality in India to the case of George Floyd in the US. Netizens asked whether Indians would protest the same way as they did for “Black lives matter”.
Is transfer a solution?
BBC reported that the policemen who arrested the father-son duo have been transferred. State Human rights commission of Tamil Nadu has filed a petition against the brutality. Although FIR has yet not been registered against the police personnel of sathankulam.
