India is a country where every sanctum sanctroum grabs it’s mistry and history among them is located in the fringes of Jamshedpur, ‘Golpahari’ is an age old temple known for housing the “goddess of hills” also known as “Golpahari Mata”. The temple’s presence can be dated back to 1900 and is incessantly radiant among the recent population residing in the city. The ultimate destination is a 2 kilometers ride ahead of Tatanagar railway station. An imperative place of worship, ‘Golpahari’ is a frequent visiting spot for tourists flocking into the city, on a regular basis. Traditionally known as a consecrated arena blooming in the charisma of lordess Durga, devotees with discontented dreams gather up to seek tranquility. The spiritually conventional regime of tying a piece of cloth at tree branches is still considered as a sign of abundance and accomplishment.
Ramdai Devi, who flew from Uttar Pradesh to Jamshedpur along with her daughter Yashoda stayed at a small hut in the bottom of the hills. An uncanny dream one night was a signal from god to institute an idol that was left unnoticed above thn hills. She climbed up the hills in order to unleash the mystery and was taken aback after discovering a piece of rock under a tree with eyes carved on it. With utmost devotion and religious penchant, Ramdai Devi started worshipping the hill goddess and later built a temple that started gaining significance among the local people. It was even believed that Ramdai Devi was blessed with an exceptional power to predict the destiny of the devotees just at a glimpse. After Ramdai, the female successors from her family managed the temple that is known as a mark of fidelity, profusion, optimism and serenity in the contemporary times.
The hallowed space is situated at 200 steps above ground level and is an ultimate spot to have a view of the scintillating city. Localides residing in and around the temple earn their livelihood by selling necessary spiritual equipments required to offer prayers that are available at every step for disciples’ convenience. The spot also accommodates temples of other gods like lord Jagannath, lord Shiva, lord Ganesha, lord Hanuman and lordess Kali that accentuates the magnificence of the place even more.
An early morning visit to ‘Golpahari’ is extremely blissful as one can experience the warm, ascending sun with every step ahead while the sound of bells ringing in temples produces pious vibes. The eternal dedication of aged devotees giving their extra bit to climb those steps just to peer at the epitome of holiness is encouraging.
