In millions someone makes history among them is Kapoor brothers.Call them a child prodigy, an innovator or one of the finest artists in India, Kappil kapoor and kunaal Kapoor have carved a niche for themselves in the art world and are amongst the leading sculpture designers in India.
Be it murals or sculptures, Kapoors’ installations are the master pieces that not only gives a reflection of innovation and reinvention of tribal art but also tells a story in such a way that anyone can understand it.
Tribal yet modern, simple yet thought provoking, their installations draw inspiration from everyday life. Their fascination for tribal art especially Dokra art of the Bastar region in Chattisgarh, has inspired them to create some of the finest works so far. “The dokra art fascinates me a lot and I create a fusion of modern yet classic art works that are not only thought provoking but makes for a good view’,says Kappil.The reason behind my interest in the Indian art is my imagination that works well when I think of the subject,” he says.
With over 25 years of experience, Kapoor brothers have invented an impeccable style that makes them stand out amongst all. Kapoor brothers have worked for Reliance India and created installation which is displayed at their Mumbai property.
They have also made a bronze sculpture for South African High Commission on their 18th National Day celebration. They had also represented India at one of the biggest international exhibitions in Los Angeles – Elephant Parade where their art work was auctioned at a very high price which was given to charity in support of the endangered Asian elephant.
Some of their sculptures and murals have been installed at various places like Hotel Pullman Gurgaon, Hotel crown plaza Greater Noida, Hotel Kempnski Ambience, Delhi, Hotel Radisson Blu Indore and Teerthankar Mahavir University Moradabad, Prayagraj Development Authority, Their creations are known for quality art work and affordability.
What drew them into this profession at an early age was their keen interest and love of creating something new by observing their father Mr praveen kapoor and great grandfather late Shri Manohar lal kapoor making replicas of antiques, innovative murals and artifacts.
During his month-long vacation Kapoor’s frequent visit to the foundry in Aligarh used to be an artist delight and he was exposed to clay modeling and understanding the nuances of creating sculpture and various finishes. Since then, art, clay, bronze, steel and fiber have become his world.
For over seven years of training and support by their family, Kapoor brothers set off on their journey to make something big and taking the family legacy forward. For them Auguste Rodin and Auguste Moreau the renowned French sculptures are the biggest inspirations for their work and it was their mentors and renowned sculptures made by foundry L’Abre D’Or from Belgium and Mr Hardy from 1998 that taught them various techniques, academics and crafts.
These award winning artists were honoured with a first prize in the Indian Art Competition held in Delhi by an NGO – Agnipath, Noted geologist and VC Jamia Millia Islamia Talat Ahmad rewarded with a shield and certificate at this ceremony. Kappilkapoor received award in sculpture from AIFACS in2019
